Los dioses creadores, en un tiempo estático, acordaron crear el mundo. Estas deidades o Dios andrógino, recibe varios nombres asociados con su función, pero todos ellos son Gucumatz (Serpiente Quetzal). La finalidad de la creación del mundo era que este sirva como habitación de un ser que tendrá por misión venerar y alimentar a los dioses: el hombre. Esta deidad hace emerger la tierra y crea a los diferentes seres vegetales y animales por medio de la palabra. Luego se aboca a la formación del hombre. Primero hizo hombres de barro que no adquirieron vida, por lo que fueron destruidos por un diluvio. Buscando una materia mas solida, forma hombres de madera, que aunque lograron reproducirse, no fueron consientes, y no pudieron cumplir con la finalidad de los dioses por lo que se transformaron en monos y su mundo desapareció bajo una lluvia de resina ardiente. Finalmente, los dioses, formaron un nuevo hombre con la masa del maíz, la materia sagrada, el cual ya reconoció a los dioses y asumió su misión sobre la Tierra. Los primeros hombres formados fueron cuatro: Balam Quitzé, Balam Acab, Mahucutah e Iquí Balam. El Sol y la Luna surgen al lado del hombre de maíz. Ambos personajes bajan al inframundo a jugar pelota con los dioses de la muerte, mueren y resucitan, y luego suben al cielo transformados en el Sol y la Luna.

This piece is for Bang! an art show about creation myths. I chose the mayan creation from the Popol Vuh:
The creator gods, on a static time, agreed to create the world. This two deities or androgynous god, receive several names associated with his function, but they are all Gucumatz (Snake-Quetzal).
The purpose of the creation of the world was that this serve as a house for a being who will have as a mission venerate and feed the gods: the man.
This deity makes emerge the land and creates the different animals and vegetables by his word. Then, he focused on creating the man. First he made mud men but they did not came to life, so they were destroyed by a flood. Looking for a stronger substance or material, they formed wood men. They were able to reproduce their self but they had no conscience, they could not fulfill their god's purpose so they were transformed into monkeys and their world disappeared under a rain of burning resin. Finally the gods formed new men out of corn dough, the sacred matter. They finally recognized the gods and assumed their mission on earth. The first formed men were four: Balam Quitzé, Balam Acab, Mahucutah and Iquí Balam.
The Sun and the Moon arise at the same time with men, both characters went to the underworld to play ball with the gods of death, they died and resurrected, and went up to the sky transformed into the Sun and the Moon.
